Zen Walk - A Guided Reflection Exercise

Exercise at a glance

The Zen Walk is a reflection exercise on your whole business, formatted as such that it fits in a 30 minute walk. It will guide your through all the parts in your business and prompt you to think about these for a moment.

Preparation

Bring a notebook and pen and go for a 30 minute walk.

Think of a nice and quiet 30 minute route to walk. Preferably with a cozy bench at the end to sit and journal.

Find episode #24 of De Gebakken Peren in your podcast app of choice (Apple Podcast, Spotify or Overcast) and press play.

The Exercise

This is an exercise where I guide a reflection while you walk.

I'll be in your ear every few minutes with a new prompt. We'll cover 8 elements of your business from your vision and value proposition, from your business model and acquisition strategy.

After every prompt, I'll be silent for a few minutes. Let your mind go where it goes. The prompt will wake up the things in your brain what need to awaken. If you notice yourself distracted, no worries, simply come back to the topic at hand. Until the next prompt.

I round up the reflection by helping you formulate a Mission Statement. I'll ask you 7 questions. Answer these in your head.

After that, sit down on a bench and write for at least 10 minutes straight. Write a lot. Reflect on what came up and your insights. Write down you lessons, new intentions and concrete action steps!

Before getting up, rewind to those 7 questions. Answer them again, now on papier. Put all 7 answers in a neat sentence or two and pawow, there is your mission statement!

NB: This Zen Walk was produced to be included in the online version of the Business Model Challenge. That means I'll make references to 'modules', 'SDGs' (Sustainable Development Goals) and a Vision Journal Exercise. Never mind, it works stand alone. But it might be fun to do that Vision - A Guided Journal Exercise before doing this one.

And if you want to mind these and see me there live, sign up for the program starting twice a year at ImpactHub Amsterdam.

I hope this helps you. It was a blast to make! Email me (tijmen@studiogeorge.nl) your insights! I really enjoy hearing from you.

Special thanks to Thijs Hoogenstrijd and the ImpactHub Amsterdam for co-creating. We also made Vision - A Guided Journal Exercise, which was way more natural for me to guide. Thanks Thijs for giving me the nudge to get over myself and do this!

And of course, as always, Ruben May and The Podcast Garden for producing.
